Law in the sense of the legal order has for its subject relations of individual human being with each other and the conduct of individuals so far as they affect others or affect the social or economic order. Law in the sense of the body of authoritative grounds of judicial decision and administrative action has for its subject matter the expectation or claims or wants held or asserted by individual human beings or groups of human beings which affect their relations or determine their conduct.

Hukum adalah bermakna sebagai tertib hukum, yang mempunyai subjek, hubungan individual antarmanusia satu sama lain dan perilaku individual yang mempengaruhi individual lain atau mempengaruhi tatasosial, atau tata ekonomi. Sedangkan hukum dalam makna kumpulan dasar-dasar kewenangan dari putusan-putusan pengadilan dan tindakan administratif, mempunyai subjek berupa harapan-harapan atau tuntutan-tuntutan oleh manusia sebagai individu ataupun kelompok-kelompok manusia yang mempengaruhi hubungan mereka atau menentukan perilaku mereka.
